Unknown Ancient God Was Worshipped In Mesopotamia – Sacred Texts And Archaeology Reveal
Ellen Lloyd - AncientPages.com - We may think we know a lot about ancient religious beliefs practiced in Mesopotamia, but when we investigate certain sacred ancient texts it becomes clear that one being that held a high place in this region of the world is shrouded in mystery.
We are familiar with the most important Mesopotamian deities like for example Enlil, Enki, Marduk, Nanna, Shamash, Ereshkigal, Inanna, just to mention a few.
However, there is a mysterious ancient god who has been lost to history and yet, sacred ancient books along with archaeological findings reveal this being was very important in Sumer, Babylonia and Assyria.
Its appearance is unusual and frankly, this bizarre creature has no place among the people of ancient Mesopotamia, but its existence is documented, a fact we cannot neglect.
We will start by examining archaeological evidence that proves this being existed. Later we take a look at sacred ancient texts that shed more light on this ancient mystery. At the end, we try to piece together the entire story and unravel who or what people in Mesopotamia worshipped.
